1/ Measuring Tape, but watch
because it is literally, ‘measuring’ time
Dall-E gave me an interesting image that got me thinking how this idea could expand into a kinetic installation? (Has someone done this already? There must have)
2/wrinkle watch
I intend to magnify a patch of your skin right underneath the watch. I find one of the bittersweet things about watching ourselves grow old is to notice the small changes on our own skin. Was that line there the whole time? How about that hair? The tiny tiny pattern on our skin that is only appropriate for ourselves or the very few closest people in our lives to spend time looking closely at. The intimate action of finding wrinkles does not have to be associate with the negative connotation of aging, but simply traces of time on our bodies.
Just as trees leave their growing mark in their trunk, we leave traces of our own growing in our skin. I want to sample a small piece of that growing trace and read our own wrinkle as quiet company to mark time passing.
3/ Smelling Time
I am still thinking about the powdered incense clock I found during week one
In this particular design, the incense clock has 100 units and when burning it the entire duration would be a full day and night (so 24 hours).
I need to spend some time thinking through the unit and design still.
My attempt at sketching this is a lot uglier than what I have in mind.
In my head they look like Roni Horn’s sculptures
